Cookie policy
Browsing Vid2Shorts sets no cookies at all. One appears when you sign in, because a session has to be remembered somehow. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no third-party trackers anywhere on this site, which is why you have never seen a consent banner here.
The whole list
This is not a summary. It is everything, and you can verify it in your browser’s developer tools in about ten seconds.
The sign-in cookie
When you sign in, our authentication provider sets a session cookie named sb-<project>-auth-token. It holds the token that proves your browser is signed in to your account, and it is the only thing standing between you and having to type your password on every page.
It is strictly necessary, in the sense that word carries under the ePrivacy Directive and the UK PECR: the service you asked for cannot be delivered without it, which is why it does not require consent. It is not used to profile you, it is not shared with anybody, and it carries no advertising identifier.
Deleting it, or signing out, simply signs you out. Nothing else about your account changes.
Things stored in your browser that are not cookies
A few preferences live in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. The distinction matters: local storage is never transmitted to us. It sits on your device and only your browser reads it. We mention it because a policy that talks only about cookies while quietly using local storage is being clever rather than honest.
- Editor preferences. Whether the timeline is expanded, and similar small choices, so the Studio opens the way you left it.
- Unfinished drafts. Edits in progress are held on your device so that a refresh or an accidental close does not lose your work. They stay on your machine.
- Dismissed notices. When you close a banner, we remember that so it does not come back on the next page.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it. You will lose unsaved drafts, which is the only consequence.
What we deliberately do not do
No advertising cookies
We do not sell advertising on this site, so there is no ad network, no retargeting pixel and no audience list. Nothing you do here follows you elsewhere.
No third-party analytics
No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recorder. We look at server logs to see whether things are broken, and those are covered in the privacy policy.
No cross-site tracking
We do not set anything that would let us or anyone else follow you between sites, and we do not load third-party scripts that would do it on our behalf.
No consent banner theatre
You have not seen a cookie wall here because there is nothing to ask permission for. A banner that asks consent for a strictly necessary session cookie is a performance, not compliance.
The thing that is not a cookie
The free tier is also protected by a device signature, which is not a cookie and cannot be cleared by clearing cookies, because a marker you can erase in two clicks protects nothing. It is computed by Fingerprint from characteristics your browser already publishes, and it answers exactly one question: has this device already had its free Short today. It is not linked to advertising, it is not sold, and it does not follow you to other websites. The privacy policy describes what Fingerprint receives. If you block it, you are not locked out; the free tier simply falls back to the cookie and the IP address.
Paying for a plan
Checkout happens on the payment provider's own page, not on ours. Stripe and NowPayments set their own cookies there, on their own domain, under their own policies, and we can neither read them nor stop them. Nothing they set is readable by vid2shorts.com. When you come back from a successful payment we set nothing new: the sign-in cookie you already had is what carries your upgraded plan.
How to remove or block them
Every browser lets you view, delete and block cookies for a specific site, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking cookies for Vid2Shorts is entirely workable: the site keeps functioning and you simply cannot stay signed in, which means paid features and your library will not be reachable.
If you use the site signed out, blocking cookies changes nothing at all, because nothing was being set.
Changes to this policy
If we ever add something that sets a cookie, this page changes before it ships, and anything that is not strictly necessary will ask you first. We would rather lose the measurement than add a tracker quietly.
