The trial is the usual sticking point. Submagic offers a handful of free videos to try it with, which is enough to see the captions and not really enough to run a release week through it. After that it is a monthly plan, and the monthly plan is the thing people search for an alternative to.
The second reason is scope. Submagic is very good at making a clip look right. It is less interested in the part before that, where you still have to decide which forty seconds of a ninety minute recording are worth posting. If the finding is your bottleneck rather than the styling, the value of a captions specialist is lower than it looks.
The third reason is who it is built for. Submagic is aimed at agencies delivering to clients, and that shows in good ways and awkward ones. The template library is deep because a client wants their brand on it. The workflow assumes several people and a review step. If you are one person posting your own clips, you are buying a tool shaped around a review process you do not have, and the parts that make it excellent for an agency are the parts you will never open.
