Descript is the most capable product on this page and the least like ours, which makes this the most useful comparison in the cluster to get right. It is a real editor. You edit the transcript and the video follows, you record your screen inside it, you clean the audio, you replace a fluffed word without going back to the microphone. People who work in it every day are not looking for an alternative to Descript. They are looking for something to do the one repetitive thing Descript still makes them do by hand.
That thing is deciding what to clip. Descript has clip creation features and it is still, at heart, a tool that assumes you know what you want and gives you an enormous amount of control over building it. When the input is a ninety minute recording and the output is five vertical clips a week, the control stops being the valuable part and the deciding starts being the whole job.
The other honest reason is weight. Descript is a desktop application with a large surface, and opening it to trim one clip is a bit like opening a photo editor to crop a screenshot.
